Hey all,
I basically want to know which dell laptops work best with jaws. Currently, I have 8.0. I'm considering the lattitude d630 or 830. Thanks.
all of them.
I agree with Yogi on this one. From what I've been told, the 800 series has a larger screen. I don't know about other aspects, but if this isn't important to you, your back and shoulders will appreciate the 600 series a great deal.

So far in my travels I haven't seen a newer computer that doesn't work with Jaws or window-Eyes so your safe with whatever you pick. I would still suggest trying to get windows XP if possible simply because Vista to me just seems slow and I use it with a few screen readers. Also, I am sure that there are still compatibillity problems that are being worked out. I use a latitude on Vista which the office purchased don't know which one.
The only laptop I had issues with was a Toshiba, but that was, I think, because I had an outdated version of Jaws and it had issues with the preinstalled Norton, I pawned the laptop off on my sister and got myself a Compaq v3019US one, which has served me just fine, although the AMD 64 processor occasionally overheats while multi tasking, something that bugs me a bit, I might go for Intel or the Core Duo AMD ones for the next machine. From all I've heard Dell are good computers and I might give them a serious looking into, but got to have some money first before splurging on a laptop when mine works just fine.
I have a dell inspirron, (SP?) and it works well with jaws and wen eyes. don't get vistia! trust me it doesn't work well. waight a few years on that one. Oh yeah mine is a XP.
thanks all
I think I might not be able to avoid getting vista. Dell is phasing out XP and there making XP more expensive. So, anyone who uses vista and jaws who could give me some tips about compatibility and overall accessibility would be appreciated.
So far with the latest build of Jaws Vista is wroking well. I use vista with office 2007 and find the way jaws reads word to be a bit buggy. when moving line by line sometimes it pings and doesn't read the line. I would try to get office 2003 if you still can. Vista is stable however I am sure that there are still softwares and drivers taht are not compatible however hopefully this is being changed. You will find vista a bit slower and laggier then xp but Jaws does fine with it. I have been using ie7 and turn off tab browsing and anyother thinkgs I can. Tab browsing can be helpfull but I just havn't decided to deal with it yet. Also, I change the start menu to classic because i find the vista start menu difficult to use. it has a little search box that you can type a program name in to toe search for it. it also can be tabbed through and the arrows do work but I prefer the orginization of the classic menu. the user account controls can be turned off easily if you don't want all of the little naggs and reminders that come up when trying to install softwaer or do simple things such as making a hotkey to an icon. Enjoy and have fun. If I can be of further ehlp send me a message. thanks.
the last i checked you can still get xp with dell computers. it comes with installed. You get the upgrade disc for vista, and install it when your ready. We have several dells and there awesome, never had any issues with it. I also heard walmrt is now carrying dell. i have never checked into i, but i'm sure it's true since they do have commercials
only inspiron 1501 has xp now. The notebooks with vista have double the memory and pretty much double everything else. So even though I really like XP, I'm pretty much at a loss.
I think you can get them custum made. so you can get XP that way. don't quote me on that though.
I tried, no luck
hmmm, maybe you should call and talk to someone else. i know they told me they do still have xp. shrugs. so check into it again. hhehehe
